Captivating Mallorca (Majorca) has been a popular tourist attraction since the 50′s. The largest island of Spain, Mallorca is located in the Mediterranean Sea and is part of the Balearic Islands archipelago.

One can discover the “soul” of the Mallorcan culture by visiting the cathedral of Palma. This splendid place of worship in Mallorca’s capital city is a summary and synthesis of the history, art and spirituality of the people. Its outline, like a huge ship, dominates the Bay of Palma in beautiful, spectacular fashion awakening the surprise and curiosity of all whom come to this city.

One of the most illustrious sons of Mallorca is Blessed Junipero Serra OFM, born in the city of Petra. Padre Serra received his seminary formation in the capital city and became a renowned and eloquent preacher and teacher here on this gorgeous island before he left for the Spanish borderlands in the New World never to return again.

His motto, Siempre adalante, y nunc atras, por el Amor de Dios (Always go forward, never turn back, for the love of God) is remembered in California in a special way given the fact that he founded the first nine of the string of 21 missions in the Golden State.
